Multippl team research has uncovered that almost half the mixed Asian athletes competing at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games will represent Chinese Ice Hockey. Many of the male and female Chinese Ice Hockey team are in fact people of mixed ethnicity.

Spencer Foo / Jiang Fu – Chinese & Canadian

Spencer Foo together with his brother Parker are the third mixed Asian athlete sibling pair competing together this Games. The brothers were both born in Edmonton, Canada to Canadian mother Diane and Chinese father John.

Parker Foo / Shuai Fu – Chinese & Canadian

Parker is younger than his brother Spencer by four years. They have a younger sibling called Brayden. Parker and Spencer currently play in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) for Kunlun Red Star based in Beijing.

Cory Kane / An Jian – Chinese & American

According to Elite Prospects, Cory Kane is half Chinese and half American. Born in Irvine, California, USA in 1990, he has played professional Hockey for over 15 years. In season 2016-17 he played for Czech team HC Ocelari Trinec for one season and moved to Kunlun Red Star after the season ended. Since then, he has played in China.

Luke Lockhart / Jia Luo – Chinese & Canadian

Luke is also of Chinese and Canadian descent. He was born in British Columbia, Canada and studied Sociology and the University of British Columbia. He graduated in 2018 and moved to Kunlun Red Star shortly after.

Jason Fram / Liu Jie – Chinese & Canadian

Jason was born in Vancouver, Canada in 1995. His father Rod is Canadian and his mother Margaret is from Singapore and migrated to Canada to attend university. In an interview in 2019 for U Sports he says: “I’m half Chinese on my mother’s side – my maternal great-grandparents were born in mainland China.”

Ty Schultz / Enlai Zheng – Chinese & German

Ty Schultz was born in British Columbia, Canada, to a German father and Chinese mother. His sister Nina Schultz gave up her Canadian citizenship to represent China at last year’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. She represented China in the Heptathlon.

Tyler Wong / Taile Wang – Chinese & Canadian

Tyler Wong was born in Alberta, Canada. He has a Chinese father and Canadian mother. He comes from a family that all play ice hockey. His younger brothers Colton (24) and Austin (21) have also played professionally. Austin currently plays Ice Hockey for Harvard University.
